The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC FCT Command, Olusola Odumosu, has bagged the appointment of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as the Focal Point in Nigeria for the project “Monitoring and Reporting on the Safety of Journalists in Africa, with a particular focus on female gender.

The appointment according to a Press Statement followed his participation in a 3day training workshop held in Entebbe, Uganda, in November, 2025, which brought together participants across the continent, including journalists, civil society organisations, law enforcement officers, legal experts from the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU) among other stakeholders.

The training which was organised by the International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) was funded by the Government of Netherlands through UNESCO’s International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC).

Participants at the training, reviewed “online observatory” developed to monitor and track attacks against women journalists in Africa, they also proffered recommendations to strengthen its functionality.

Odumosu is expected to work closely with professional bodies such as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Civil society groups and other relevant stakeholders in ensuring the protection of female journalists across the continent.

Mr Odumosu has expressed gratitude to the NSCDC Commandant General, Prof Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for his approval of the appointment.
