The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy's commitment to supporting the successful hosting of the Women in Security Summit and Awards, WINSEC '2026.
The assurance was given when the National President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Naval Headquarters, Abuja.
Speaking during the meeting, Rear Admiral C. Onyemobi, representing the Chief of Naval Staff, conveyed CNS's appreciation for the visit, commending the vision behind WINSEC '2026, noting that the summit will provide a strategic platform for advancing dialogue, collaboration, and inclusive participation in addressing contemporary security issues, gender inclusivity and related matters. He reiterated the Nigerian Navy's readiness to support initiatives that promote national security, women empowerment and special welfare in the security sector.
Earlier, the National President of NAWOJ, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, said the visit was to formally intimate the Nigerian Navy on preparations for the Women in Security Summit and Awards, WINSEC '2026 and to seek the partnership and support towards the successful hosting of the event.
Comrade Ibrahim expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff for the warm reception and positive disposition towards the initiative, noting that the Nigerian Navy's support would significantly enhance the success of the summit and strengthen collaborative efforts between NAWOJ and the Navy in building a safer and more secured Nigeria.
She explained that WINSEC '2026 is designed to bring together military, security chiefs, policymakers, development partners, media professionals, and other major stakeholders to deliberate on emerging security issues, recognize outstanding contributions of Female personnel to the security sector, and promote greater inclusion of women in peacebuilding and national security.
In his brief remark, the Assistant National Secretary, NUJ National Secretariat, Comrade Tita Onyebuchi Nze, appreciated the Navy leadership for hosting the visiting team at a very short notice, pledging the NUJ and NAWOJ's commitment to responsible journalism, saying that WINSEC is aimed celebrating the hardwork, loyalty and bests of Women in security.
The meeting ended with a mutual commitment to fostering stronger collaboration in promoting security awareness, professional excellence, and women's leadership in the security sector through the successful hosting of the Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC) 2026.
