According to the Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions followed the presentation of Letters of Credence by Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Germany, Ambassador Ita Solomon Enang, to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Presidential Palace in Berlin.
The Ministry disclosed that, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and explored cooperation in trade, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, migration and technology.
The ministry said discussions include a proposed Nigeria-Germany Migration Agreement aimed at facilitating legal pathways for skilled Nigerian professionals in sectors experiencing labour shortages in Germany, including healthcare, engineering, technology, artificial intelligence and other specialised fields.
The talks also covered increased German investment in Nigeria, particularly in automobile assembly, industrial development, technology transfer and gas utilisation projects designed to convert flared gas into electricity.
Regional peace and security, Nigeria’s leadership role within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), engagement with Sahel countries, and Germany’s continued support for the implementation of the Green Tree Agreement following the International Court of Justice’s judgment on the Nigeria-Cameroon boundary were also discussed, according to the ministry.
