Nigerian Navy has pledged its partnership and support for the successful hosting of the Women in Security Summit and Awards, WINSEC '2026; an initiative of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.

The commitment was made by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), represented by Rear Admiral C. Onyemobi, when he received the National President of NAWOJ, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, and her delegation on a courtesy visit to the Naval Headquarters, Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting, Rear Admiral Onyemobi described the Women in Security Summit and Awards as a timely initiative that aligns with the Nigerian Navy's commitment to promoting national security, strategic partnerships, and inclusive participation in addressing contemporary security challenges. He reaffirmed the Service's readiness to collaborate with NAWOJ and the NUJ to ensure the success of WINSEC 2026.

He noted that fostering stronger partnerships between security institutions and the media is essential to enhancing public awareness, promoting responsible reporting on security matters, and supporting national stability.

Earlier, the National President of NAWOJ, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, said the visit was to formally seek the Nigerian Navy's partnership and support for the forthcoming Women in Security Summit and Awards, WINSEC '2026. She explained that the summit is designed to bring together women in the security space, policymakers, members of the Armed Forces, law enforcement personnel, media professionals, development partners, academics, and other stakeholders, to rub minds on emerging security issues, while celebrating excellence and advance women's leadership in peace and security.

In his remark, the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, represented by the NUJ Assistant National Secretary, Comrade Tita Onyebuchi, Nze, expressed profound appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff for the warm reception and positive response to the initiative. 

Comrade Tita, stated that the Nigerian Navy's support for WINSEC '2026 which is first of its kind event in Nigeria, would further strengthen the credibility and impact of the project, while deepening mutual relationship and collaboration between the military, the media, and other critical stakeholders.

The meeting concluded with presentation of Plaque by the host and group photographs, END.
