European Union EU, has said it is preparing a combined €45 million security and stabilisation package for Nigeria, aimed at strengthening counter-terrorism operations and peacebuilding efforts in the North-West.
The EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, disclosed this during a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, in Abuja.
Amb. Gautier Mignot said a total of €20 million is expected to be provided under the European Peace Facility for counter-drone and counter-improvised explosive device equipment.
He disclosed that the EU is also developing a separate €25 million peace and stabilisation programme for the North-West, where several communities continue to face insecurity and displacement.
Both officials reviewed Nigeria-EU relations, including cooperation in security, trade, political engagement and sustainable development.
Mignot further confirmed that discussions are ongoing over President Bola Tinubu’s proposed official visit to Brussels, with October 2026 under consideration.
The visit is expected to strengthen diplomatic ties and expand cooperation between Nigeria and the European Union. END
