Vice-Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Charles Esimone, on Tuesday appealed to students of the institution not to be consumed by negative manipulations and influence of politicians in deciding their future.

The Vice Chancellor made the appeal in a reaction to rumour making rounds, alleging that theres School Fees hike by Nnamdi Azikwe University. Prof. Esimone who said he was saying in clear terms that, the University Management under his leadership did not increase any school fees as being rumoured by the protesting students appealed to the students "shine their eyes".

The Vice Chancellor however explained that the true position of things is that, various fees were harmonized by the School Management, to make payment by the students more easier, adding that no student is expected to pay any other Faculty, Department or Student Union fees whatsoever after the harmonized payment system.

It was earlier reported by a Newpaper that Students of the institution barricaded a portion of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway over alleged hike in school fees, accusing the University Management of connivance with the Student Union Government (SUG) on the rumoured fees hike.

Addressing the Students, Prof. Esimone explained that the harmonised fees is in obedience to the Federal Government's order on Single Treasury Account TSA, which is been implemented in all federal government institution and agencies throughout the country.

The VC further highlighted that due process was followed in getting to the point of the fee harmonization, stating that a Committee was earlier set up by the Versity Management in 2019/2020 Academic Session to carry out the harmonization which consequently gave rise to its implementation.

Prof. Esimone stated that for the avoidance of doubt, “The harmonised fees include the Faculty, Departmental, Convocation levies respectively including, Students Union Fees, ICT Services, Examination fees, Laboratory fees/Studies/Clinical Fee, X-Ray test, National Health Insurance Scheme, Development Levy, Students Union Fee, Accreditation and Convocation fees”

The VC further warned Students acting under the influence of Political Jobbers to follow their sense of reasoning and stop the protests, so as to allow prevailing peace and harmony being enjoyed by the University Community to prevail. ■ End
