In a bid to sanitize the system and make the institution maintain it's standards of best practices, the Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, says it is determined to bring the full weight of the law upon the unethical behavior of one of it's lecturers who allegedly inflicted severe injury on a female student for not dressed in an "Ankara" textile material to the lecture hall.

Professor Uche Nwogwugwu, the Dean Faculty of Social Sciences who represented the school management made this known to Newsmen in reaction to a viral video clip making the rounds on social media, where a girl who was later identified as a student of Economics Department, UNIZIK was seen wallowing in pains and lamenting the beating she received from a lecturer, which left her body swollen and bleeding with injuries.


Prof. Nwogwugwu said “a thorough investigation shall be conducted into the issue and if the allegations are true, the lecturer will definitely face the disciplinary wrath of the Vice Chancellor".  The Dean explained that "there is need to find out the actual reason behind the beaten of the female student." emphasising the lecturer would not go unpunished if found wanting.

Investigatorsnews preliminary findings revealed that the rampaging lecturer also seized personal effects, footwear, of another student due to their non-compliance with the Ankara dress code espected to them.

The Prof. explained that “it is true that the University management under the leadership of the VC, Prof. Charles Esimone, instituted a law prohibiting indecent dressing within the Versity community, but cautioned that, that did not in anyway empower any lecturer or staff of the Institution to take laws into their hands without recourse to authorities”, assuring that, the University management will continue to do all within it's powers to protect the rights and welfare of its teeming students.

Concluding, Prof. Nwaogwugwu revealed that Governors Obiano and Umahi of Anambra and Ebonyi States, including Minister for Defence, Bashir Salihi Magashi, Sen. Ben Obi, Sen. Ali Ndume and Hon. Abdulrazaq Saad Namdas among other dignataries are expected to grace the occasion of the University Security Summit billed for 29th of July, stating that the Security Summit, expected to be hosted by the Faculty of Social Sciences, is aimed at chatting a way forward as regards the security challenges presently bedevilling the country. ■ End.
