ZONE 7 AIG COMMENDS FCT POLICE FOR FOILING KIDNAP ATTEMPT IN GUTO VILLAGE, BWARI; CONDOLES WITH FAMILY OF FALLEN OFFICER

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Victor Olaiya, has commended the gallant efforts of officers of the FCT Police Command for successfully repelling a kidnapping attempt in Guto village, an outskirts community in Bwari Area Council, in the early hours of 20th November 2025.

At about 01:10 a.m., the Command received a distress call indicating that armed criminals, numbering about thirty, had invaded the community in an attempt to abduct a resident and his family. In a swift and coordinated response, the Bwari Division Surveillance Team, working alongside the IGP Special Intervention Squad (SIS), mobilised to the scene. On sighting the Police team, the attackers opened fire, prompting the officers to engage them with superior firepower.

During the fierce exchange, the operatives neutralised two of the assailants, while the others fled into the surrounding bushes and mountainous terrain.

Sadly, one brave Police officer sustained a fatal gunshot wound in the line of duty. He was immediately taken to Bwari General Hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. The AIG Zone 7 deeply regrets this tragic loss and expresses heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends of the fallen officer who paid the supreme price in service to the nation.

AIG Victor Olaiya has also commended the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc., for his prompt deployment of additional personnel to the area, ensuring the restoration of calm and enhanced security presence. He has further directed that all necessary investigative actions be intensified to track down the fleeing perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The AIG reassures residents of the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly within Zone 7, to safeguarding lives and property across the FCT and its environs.
