SEN. IZUNASO COLLABORATES HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS TO EMPOWER TRADERS

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT EMPOWERMENT SCHEME: SENATOR OSITA IZUNASO COLLABORATES WITH THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION TO EMPOWER TRADERS IN ORLU ZONE

November 17, 2023

The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has commenced the sensitisation of traders in Imo West Senatorial District on the forthcoming Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme (GEEP 2.0) in Imo State.

The GEEP 2.0 Loan Scheme is designed by the Federal Government to provide financial aid to the poor and vulnerable individuals, including Persons Living With Disability and the downtrodden  who are engaged in small scale trading and businesses in the country.

The poverty alleviation programme, which aims at cushioning the adverse effect of the recent fuel subsidy removal on the poor masses, is set to commence soon.

However, the proactive distinguished Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District at the Red Chambers, Dist. Sen. Osita Bonaventure Izunaso has already nominated a true market leader, Hon. Udoka J. Mgbemere (JP) as a contact person for the federal ministry to oversee the empowerment scheme in his Zone, for the effective disbursement of the loan to the concerned traders.

Hon. Udoka J. Mgbemere has since sworn into action, and has commenced the sensitization of traders in various markets within Orlu Zone about the empowerment programme, while noting that the loan disbursement will commence immediately after data collection and verification exercise.

In his address to traders at Imo International Market, Orlu, on Friday 17th November 2023, the Orlu Zonal Coordinator, Hon. Mgbemere, who doubles as the Orlu Zonal President of Imo State Amalgamated Markets & Traders Association (ISAMATA), urged the traders to take good advantage of the loan programme; while thanking Senator Osita Izunaso for finding him worthy to coordinate the programme in the Zone, Hon. Mgbemere stressed the desire of the present-day government to alleviate poverty in the country.

According to him, "This programme is the first dividend of democracy that this market and other traders in the zone will be receiving from the present government, and more are on the way. So, I urge you all to participate in this programme. Submit your personal details accordingly and when it's time for data capturing/verification, make sure you make yourself available. It is true that there have been similar programmes in the past that failed, but I can assure you that this particular one is different based on the assurance I received from Dist. Sen. Osita Izunaso. This loan programme is sustainable and without any interest or collateral."

In his vote of thanks, the market Chairman of Imo International Market Orlu, Elder Ojoh Harmony Orji, thanked the Federal Government for such laudable initiative and expressed the readiness of the traders of his market to fully participate in the programme.
