The Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District and Chairman Senate Committee on Capital Market, Distinguished Senator Osita Izunaso, has described the 2024 Budget presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a "Double R" Budget, which according to him, means a "Realistic and Responsive" Budget.

Senator Izunaso gave the expression at the National Assembly complex while speaking to newsmen shortly after the presentation of N27.5t Budget of Renewed Hope by Nigeria's President Tinubu, during a joint session of both Chambers on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.

According to the Senator, "I can confidently tell you that this is a "Realistic and Responsive" Budget, a practical Budget, a Budget of Renewed Hope indeed!

He stated that it is a Budget that has practically taken care of all the aspects of budgeting, saying that all the rytorics of budget, from oil production, to pump pricing, including predicating 1Dollar to N750 were well captured. He explained that by doing so, government has simply given itself a significant task, since the official rate of Dollar as at today is about N990.

The Senator said, what the government is simply saying is that, if the budget comes into effect by January 2024, it means that the exchange rate will hopefully come down to N750 to a Dollar.

He posited that "To me, this is an all encompassing budget that has dealt with the issues of private public sector partnerships, explaining that, government alone cannot fund social infrastructure, meaning that they shall delve into aggressive PPP, Private, Public, Partnerships arrangement to ensure adequate funding of critical social infrastructures.

Senator Izunaso revealed that government also adequately captured the vunerable in the budget, saying that it is expected that funds shall be made available to provide about 20million homes in Nigeria.

He said "This government is talking about employment of the youths, which is a teeming issue, because, if you don't give youths employment, the country will contend with major issues." He added that government is also focusing on women and children; that, "there's therefore a lot of hope and prospects in the budget". He revealed that the budget addressed government partnering with international collaborators, in the area of sustainable clean energy, which he said is where the world is tilting to right now.

Senator Izunaso however cautioned, that, "for the budget to have accelerated passage, Ministers and heads of MDA's must be up and doing in making themselves available for their budget defence; promising that he is very certain that he and his colleagues at the  National Assembly shall do all that is necessary to meet the expected target time of January 2024.
