PRESS RELEASE

AFC CONDEMNS OZORO RAPE INCIDENT, CALLS FOR SWIFT JUSTICE AND STRONGER PROTECTION FOR WOMEN

The Association of Female Comrades (AFC) Headquarters strongly condemns in the harshest terms the reported rape incident in Ozoro. This act is not only a gross violation of human rights but a disturbing reminder of the persistent threat of sexual and gender-based violence faced by women and girls in our society.

We express our deepest sympathy to the survivor and commend her courage. No individual deserves to experience such trauma, and we stand in solidarity with her during this difficult time.

AFC therefore calls on law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough, transparent, and expedited investigation into the matter. The perpetrators must be brought to justice without delay. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done, to restore public confidence and deter future occurrences.

We also wish to state clearly that, any culture, tradition, or practice that undermines the dignity, integrity, and safety of women must be abolished and should not be allowed in any modern society, that is, no cultural belief should in any form or at any point in time be used to justify abuse, silence victims, or protect offenders.

In this regard, we are calling on community leaders, the state government, and traditional rulers to take a firm stand against all forms of gender-based violence and harmful practices; leadership at all levels must demonstrate zero tolerance and actively work to protect women and girls.

We further urge relevant stakeholders government institutions, community leaders, and civil society organizations to strengthen preventive measures, including:

Increased public awareness on consent and gender rights
Stronger enforcement of existing laws on sexual violence
Improved support systems for survivors, including medical, legal, and psychological care

This incident reinforces the urgent need for collective action. Silence and inaction only embolden perpetrators. AFC remains committed to advocating for safer communities where women and girls can live free from fear and violence.

Enough is enough!

Signed:

Dist. Comrade Isah Muniretu,
National President, AFC
