CRISIS, PROTESTS ROCK APPOINTMENT OF NEW AGF
...as Civil Societies Kick.
Coalition of Transparency Observers Group, (CTOG) a coalition of various Civil Societ Organizations, CSOs in the forefront of probity, transparency, accountability and fiscal responsibility, have faulted the process that led to recent appointment of the new Accountant General of the Federation.
In a statement issued by the Secretary of the Coalition, Comrade Chima Chibuike stated that the appointment of Oluwatoyin Madein as the substantive Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, whose supposed appointment was made public on May 18, 2023, by former President Muhammadu Buhari, from all available facts, is grossly flawed and questionably and hastily done, in flagrant disregard to the Civil Services rules and regulations.
After intensive deliberation on the whole process, it is very clear tgat the Head of the Civil Service after a long drawn skewed and manipulated process, without following laid down rules and procedures went ahead to announce her Director, Finance and Accounts, Toyin Sakirat Adein as the AGF, a candidate who is not even amongst the most Senior Directors in the Service.
It is very clear that the Head of Service contrived and foisted Mr Oluwatoyin Madein as the Accountant General of the Federation on President Muhammadu Buhari barely eleven days to the expiration of the administration “claiming it followed a successful selection process” which after close investigation was but a clear sham!.
Consequent upon the prevailing circumstance leading to the kangaroo selection therefore, process, we, concerned Civil Society Groups in our statutory mandates to fight for equity, fairness, justice and sanity of social ills, hereby call for the annulment and total overhaul of the entire process; insisting that the selection be revisited with immediate effect by the anti-corruption government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, so as to restore the dignity and integrity of the system, and for the new dispensation to avoid hitches and pitfalls; while on our part we shall through dignified constructive protests, channel our grouse and grievances to appropriate quarters in due course.■END
