Sen. Izunazo, Amos Adamu Committed to Sam Okwaraji U-16 Soccer 

The Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District at the Upper Legislative Chambers of the National Assembly, who also doubles as Chairman, Steering Committee of the maiden edition of Sam Okwaraji U-16 Football Tournament for secondary schools in the Nigeria, Distinguished Senator Osita Izunaso, OFR, as well as Dr. Amos Adamu, former DG, Nigerian National Sports Commission and Grand Patron of the Championship, have pledged individual commitments towards the successful hosting of the competition.

They stated this after a strategic session at the Senate Building of the National Assembly where various strategies on how to navigate and galvanize support for funding of the championship were discussed for the tournament which already has received approval and endorsement by the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF).

In a Press Statement signed by the Chairman of Media Committee of the Tournament, Chidozie Achonwa, says, the meeting between the two time Senator and Dr. Adamu, former Director General of the National Sports Commission was very fruitful and resourceful, as vital and technical issues surrounding the competition aimed at immortalizing the late football legend, who died on the soccer pitch in service of his fatherland at the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos, on August 12, 1989.

"The meeting between Senator Izunaso and the one time CAF/ FIFA Executive Committee member and former Director General of the National Sports Commission, Dr. Amos Adamu was facilitated to enable the two critical stakeholders strategize on how to mobilize support and funding for the all important tournament".

"We are very hopeful that the outcome of the meeting will make the competition a resounding success. It is equally important to state that, the family of late Sam Okwaraji are well appreciative of the involvement of the two important personalities in the arrangement of the tournament because of their past records of huge experience and known capacity to make things happen.

 "We at the foundation are anxiously looking forward to more engagements from corporate entities, philanthropists and government at all levels, for support", says Achonwa, who doubles as the secretary of the Samuel Okwaraji Foundation". 


The competition is expected to take-off with zonal tournaments in all the six geographical zones of the federation, culminating into a round of robin game that will involve best two teams from each  zone, to determine the everrall winner. END
