COP 28: ECN Seals Tripartite Deal With Niger State, Global Wind Energy Council

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has signed tripartite agreement with Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) an energy consulting group and the Niger State Government on wind energy development in Niger State.

The collaboration agreement which was facilitated by an international consultancy firm Bridge Synergy was signed by Governor Umar Bago, ECN Director-General, Dr Mustapha Abdulahi and a representative of GWEC's Chief Executive Officer Ben Backwell at a brief ceremony at the sidelines of the ongoing UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.


Under the agreement, the three parties are to collaborate to promote wind energy development and establish a Joint Implementation Committee on Renewable Energy Development (wind) consisting of representatives of all the entities to fulfill terms of the deal.


While ECN will serve as the implementing agency, Global Wind Energy Council is expected to provide research and analysis on the wind power development in Niger State.


The collaboration agreement is for a period of five years and may be extended for a further period of five years upon re-negotiation by all parties. END
