The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says it has introduced what it called Device Checker Service

According Reports monitored by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, the commission said, the Device Checker Service which functions through a CODE will allow consumers to verify communications devices by dialling *315#, as part of efforts to curb counterfeit and non-compliant phones on Nigerian mobile networks.

The NCC used the opportunity of the public presentation of the code to advise Nigerians on the need to verify devices before making payment, particularly when purchasing second-hand phones.

The Commission said consumers could verify a device by dialling *315# and following the prompts.
