Authorities of Zone 7 Police Headquarters has said it has cracked down on a suspected fraudulent vehicle transaction within Abuja metropolis, arrested one suspect and recovered $7,000.00 cash money as exhibit.

Police Cracks a Fraudulent Vehicle Sales Transaction, Recovers $7,000.00 in Abuja

The Zone 7 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force has successfully cracked a case of suspected fraud involving the sales of a defective luxury vehicle and recovers $7,000.00 USD for the complainant, who resides in Abuja.

The incident, which was reported via a petition to the AIG on 19th June 2025 involved a fraudulent sales transaction at Ilado Car Stand in Lokogoma, FCT Abuja, orchestrated by Mr. Peter Ikechukwu Okorie and an accomplice identified only as Mr. Paul.

According to the petition submitted by the complainant, she saw a Facebook advertisement on 10th June 2025 for a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon offered for sale at ₦32,000,000.00 which is Equivalent to $20,000.00 USD. She contacted the seller, Mr. Peter Ikechukwu, and proceeded to inspect the vehicle at the designated car stand. Upon inspection, she was told the only fault with the car was its power steering system, which would be fixed within one week. Based on this assurance, The Complainant paid a deposit of $7,000.00 USD, with a mutual understanding that the money paid would be returned if she chose not to proceed with the purchase.

Upon conducting a follow-up inspection with a certified Mercedes-Benz mechanic, significant electrical and mechanical defects were discovered beyond the initially stated issue. When she requested a refund, Mr. Peter and Mr. Paul insisted that no refund would be made unless the car was sold to another buyer, without providing a clear timeline thereby suspecting a fraudulent act as exhibited by the duo suspect. 

Upon the receipt of the approved petition Police detectives from Zone 7 Headquarters, Led by CSP Akinlabi Ogundile took swift action, inviting Mr. Peter Ikechukwu for questioning. During the investigation, Mr. Peter confessed to the crime and the sum of $7,000.00 USD was recovered from him.  

Meanwhile, efforts are on top gear to arrest his accomplice Mr Paul who is currently at large for prosecution at the court of law. 

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 7 Headquarters, reaffirmed his commitment to the protection of life and property as well as fighting crime to its bearest minimum. He further advised  Members of the public to exercise due diligence when engaging in similar transactions, particularly involving online sales.
