Army Spokesperson Commends NAWOJ for Consistency, ahead WINSEC Summit '2026

The Nigerian Army Spokesperson, Colonel Anele, has commended the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) for their unwavering dedication, doggedness, and consistency in reporting the activities of the Nigerian Army.

Colonel Anele made the commendation while speaking to NUJ Correspondent in Abuja, acknowledging the critical role NAWOJ continues to play in promoting professionalism, and balanced reportage within the media space, particularly in matters concerning national security and defense.

Col. Anele further applauded the association for its forthcoming flagship event, the Women in Security Summit & Awards (WINSEC Summit '2026).

According to her, the initiative represents a bold and visionary step toward amplifying the role of women in security, peace-building, and national development.

Describing the summit as a groundbreaking initiative, Colonel Anele noted that WINSEC Summit '2026 is the first of its kind not only in Nigeria but possibly across the African continent. She emphasized that the platform would provide a unique opportunity for stakeholders, security experts, policy makers, and women leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue, share experiences, and chart a progressive path for inclusive security governance.

“The commitment of NAWOJ to spotlighting issues of security through a gender lens is commendable. The WINSEC Summit '2026 is a timely and strategic initiative that will contribute significantly to national discourse and policy direction,” she stated.

The Nigerian Army Spokesperson however frowned against unsubstantiated reports by some quarters, especially social media miscreants, charging NAWOJ to beam their searchlights towards that direction, so as to possibly uproot bad eggs within the Nigeria media system.

Colonel Anele reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment and support for credible initiatives that promote collaboration between the military, media, and civil society, while encouraging NAWOJ to sustain its momentum in advancing responsive developmental journalism and national cohesion.

The WINSEC Summit 2026 is expected to convene distinguished participants from across Nigeria and beyond, fostering conversations that may shape the future of women’s involvement in security architecture. END
