Anambra State Federal Road Safety Command has kicked off the 2021 Ember Month Safety Campaign, to sensitize the general public of road consciousness.

The exercise which took place at the Dominion Park, Bridge Head, Onitsha on Thursday had its theme "Maintain Safe Speed, Avoid Night Travels and Enjoy Quality Road Experience". 

Speaking during the opening remark, the Sector Commander, FRSC RS5.3 Anambra Sector Command, CC, Adeoye A. Irelewuyi, said this year's ember months comes up within the electioneering period in the State, which are characterised by lots of functions and activities resulting into increase in human and vehicular movements. 

The Corps Commander, noted that the FRSC is poised with the responsibility of sensitizing the public on the need to maintain safety consciousness and restore safe driving culture on our roads especially during the yuletide.

Addressing, Zonal Commanding Officer for Edo, Delta and Anambra state, Assistance Corp Marshal, ACM Andrew Ayodele Kumapayi FHNR said the campaign is aimed at educating the general public on the dangers of road crashes and possible safety measures to be taken, while advicing road users to avoid night travels, over speeding and rush hours, especially at night due to insecurity.

ACM Kumapayi however, assured the public that the FRSC will "scale up 24hrs traffic surveillance, using specially trained personnel and modern traffic monitoring instruments in all the roads in the zone so as to minimize incidences of road crashes and prevent deaths, injuries and loss of property".

Also speaking, Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano represented by permanent secretary, Ministry of Transport, Dr Emman Ude Akpeh, ackonwkeded that transport is life as it helps to move people from one place to another. Saying "As we celebrate the yelutitde, we must maintain safe driving protocols; as we are aware, the action is coming at the right time when the state is conducting elections." The Governor's representative assured that the state government will partner the agency in the best way possible to ensure effective service delivery. 

In his speech, Mr Chris Nwaorah, the Chairman Dominion Park Bridgehead, called on drivers to adhere to the principles of road worthiness by ensuring that their tyres are up to standard, use of seat belt and maintaining regulated speed on the road, he called on the agency to engage drivers in more trainings.

Highlight of the occasion were the cutting of ribbon to flag off the Ember Months Campaign.


Present at the event were, Anambra Integrated Development Strategy [ANIDS] Chairman, represented by Jude Eze, the Senior Special Adviser to Governor on Anambra Transport Maintenance agency (ATMA), Hon Angus Ibezim, Major B A adesoya representing 302 artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army Onitsha, Sector Command unit, RS 5.31 - RS 5.37, SP EKEM, Anambra state Police Command rep, transport Chairmen, Special Marshals among others.

Investigatorsnews reports that the inherent dangers associated with road crashes arise from users of the road. Therefore, obedience to safe driving practices, road traffic rules and regulations and adoption of the 2021 Ember Months Campaign theme will go a long way to guarantee that motorists enjoy quality road experiences.
